Magnus Eliason Passes Away
Winnipeg has lost a former long time city councilor and Canada has lost a long time politician/activist. Magnus Eliason has passed away at the age of 94.
Born in 1911, Magnus began his political career in the 1930s when, at the age of 21 yrs, he helped build the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation in British Columbia which would later become the NDP. He was also instrumental in the creation of that same NDP in the 1960s. He was first elected to Winnipeg …
What Is This World Becoming?
I can’t believe how many sick and twisted people share this world with the rest of us. About a week ago I mentioned that Winnipeg resident Robert Geary, who is wanted in Winnipeg for a date in court to face 15 charges of sexual assault involving prostitutes, was arrested, charged and convicted in England of attempting to enlist the aid of prostitutes in procuring young girls for himself. (See Children Must be Protected.)
In another equally disgusting case 2 women here …
Children Must be Protected
I understand and acknowledge there are many valid arguments against the practice of capital punishment. Here is one (of many) in favour.
Winnipeg resident Robert Geary, age 41 years, had been scheduled to stand trial to face 15 charges of sexual assault involving prostitutes. The charges date back to October 2000. Prior to the start of his trial, he conveniently vanished without a trace. A Canada-wide warrant was issued but he was never located. That was soon to change. In late …

NDP SHIELDING CROWN CORPORATIONS FROM PUBLIC SCRUTINY
The chief problem with the Doer government, amply illustrated by the
recent spate of provincial scandals, is that there is nobody to watch
the watchers. There is apparently nobody in the provincial government
with the clout - or the guts - to tell our Premier his government is on
the wrong track. What other explanation can there be, for instance, for
Crocus or for forced unionization on the floodway? Or the Seven Oaks
land deal? Or, …
Registry Not the Answer
So much for the federal gun registry. Not only has a firearm once again been used in the commission of a crime but a young man is dead - an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of warring gangs. The streets of Winnipeg have been much like the Old West as of late and the gun registry has done nothing to halt the violence.
More than 1,000 people packed a downtown theatre yesterday to bid farewell to a young man who …
But He Has integrity!
Well another so-called conservative has shown his true colours. Conservative MLA John Loewen, who played a pivotal role in exposing the Crocus scandal has decided to quit provincial politics and jump ship to the federal Liberals. Many are calling this a blow to the provincial Tories but I disagree. It’s about time we weed out these closet-Liberals. They have infested the conservative movement at all levels and continue to eat away at our core like a cancer. Good riddance I …
MPI SERVING AS PIGGY BANK FOR DOER GOVERNMENT
Yet another great opinion piece from Jeff Niederhoffer.
MPI SERVING AS PIGGY BANK FOR DOER GOVERNMENTIn the wake of media reports a month ago, Manitoba motorists undoubtedly were interested to learn that the Doer government is using Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) premiums to pay for non-MPI programs and to pay the salaries of non-MPI bureaucrats.
Our Premier and his Cabinet apparently see MPI as a slush fund. From a taxpayer’s standpoint, this diversion of MPI monies is a questionable arrangement in its …
One-Sided Journalism
As Winnipeg city council wrestles with the idea of privatizing its garbage collection service city-wide, I’m amused at how some in the media, who have already made a decision, will go to great lengths to find people to corroborate their position.
I am referring to Ross Romaniuk of the Winnipeg Sun. After reading his op-ed from last month (July 27) its quite evident Mr. Romaniuk opposes the complete privatization of the city’s garbage collection. I say “complete” because part of Winnipeg …
