Suspended
Unbelievable. I checked my various email accounts this morning and to my surprise found a message from Blogger.com informing me they have temporarily suspended one of my blogs pending a review citing a possible violation of the TOS. Excuse me? The blog in question, testblog568.blogspot.com, was only created a few days ago for the simple purpose of trouble shooting and contains just 3 posts all of which are made up of nonsensical lorem ipsum text. I create test blogs from time to time as I am a moderator at Blogger Forum and it helps to try to recreate the problem a user reports. Blogger has given me the option to fill out a “request review” form otherwise they will delete the blog in 20 days. What a joke. Normally I wouldn’t care if they delete the blog since it is only a test blog but I don’t want the reputation with Blogger/Google as someone who violates their TOS. As a result, I have filled out their little “request review” form.
I find it laughable that a service like Blogger, which is riddled with spam/crap blogs, would flag my poor little 3-day-old test blog as a possible spam blog.
Update: After doing some digging I found this gem on the Blogger site,
As with many powerful tools, blogging services can be both used and abused. The ease of creating and updating webpages with Blogger has made it particularly prone to a form of behavior known as link spamming. Blogs engaged in this behavior are called spam blogs, and can be recognized by their irrelevant, repetitive, or nonsensical text, along with a large number of links, usually all pointing to a single site.
Okay, the bit about nonsensical text would explain why my little test blog was flagged by their bot but Jesus, they flag my test blog while their servers are overrun with real spam blogs?
Update #2: After a couple of days Blogger reinstated the blog. Of course they couldn’t be bothered to actually tell me. I found out on my own by logging in. They have much to learn with respect to customer relations.
