Cotler Speaks Out

Kudos to MP Irwin Cotler on two points:

  • his stand on Canada’s human rights commissions
  • his stand on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

On point number one Mr. Cotler recognizes Canada’s human rights commissions have strayed far from the mandates they were originally set up to follow.

…it’s clear Cotler believes the commissions have, in investigating a number of complaints against published materials that were deemed “offensive,” gone off the rails from pursuing their original purpose. These cases include the current complaints against Maclean’s magazine, for publishing an excerpt from Mark Steyn’s latest book, America Alone, last fall, and Ezra Levant, the ex-publisher of the now defunct Western Standard, who reprinted the controversial Danish cartoons in 2006 of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

On point number two he understands the threat to security posed by Ahmadinejad.

Former Canadian Justice Minister Irwin Cotler on Monday called on the world community to act against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad before he carries out his threats of genocide against Israel.

Damn refreshing.
