Senior Struck By Vehicle Dies

My sincere condolences to the family of Joseph La Spina who passed away early this morning after asking doctors to be taken off life support.

The 83-year-old grandfather/great-grandfather was gravely injured Feb 03 when he was struck by a vehicle while on his way to a grocery store. Mr. La Spina was walking north on Kenaston Blvd when a van stopped for him to cross a lane leading into a condo complex. The stopped van was suddenly rear-ended by another vehicle sending him flying into the air. The resulting injuries left him paralyzed from the neck down. Last week he refused a tracheotomy that would have helped him to breathe and asked doctors to remove him from the ventilator he was hooked up to.

A sad story indeed.
