Lakota Indians Declare Independence
Has anyone seen this story? The Lakota Sioux Indians have withdrawn from all treaties with the U.S government and have declared independence. From a news release at CommonDreams.org,
Lakota Sioux Indian representatives declared sovereign nation status today in Washington D.C. following Monday’s withdrawal from all previously signed treaties with the United States Government. The withdrawal, hand delivered to Daniel Turner, Deputy Director of Public Liaison at the State Department, immediately and irrevocably ends all agreements between the Lakota Sioux Nation of Indians and the United States Government outlined in the 1851 and 1868 Treaties at Fort Laramie Wyoming.
Following Monday’s withdrawal at the State Department, the four Lakota Itacan representatives have been meeting with foreign embassy officials in order to hasten their official return to the Family of Nations.
Russell Means, Itacan of Lakota added,
“The new country would issue its own passports and driving licences, and living there would be tax-free - provided residents renounce their U.S. citizenship.”
Keep your eye on this story, it has the potential to explode. I wonder how long the U.S government will allow this to continue?

This particular insurrection won’t be bungled like Caledonia. This will be dealt with, you can count on that.

Will the Lakota want the same deal as Canada’s First Nations as in, We want our independence but just keep the free money, medical ,education etc. coming at no cost to the “Independent Nation”??

I support the independence if it means they are completely sovereign and don’t retain handouts from the government. Of course, this will likely get crushed under the foot of the American Dream.

I too am curious to see if this newly declared independence includes independence of the financial type.

How STUPID! The US government should just erect a border around the new country and alow nothing in or out save for medical emergencies and alcohol. Although this might legitimize this claim. Let them gamble themselves into subjection while driving in their own country(can’t drive in the State or US without a recognised valid licence).

I wish itwere oh so easy for the Lakota ppl to do and may it be granted. Just maybe , this might light a fire in the first nations hearts in North America to unite for all treaties were broken anyways.

Hi Dana,
I’m not familiar with the situation down south but up here in Canada I think we’ve done a good job of addressing old grievances.
