Back in early 2006 Winnipeg Transit announced a $142-million transit upgrade plan which included among other things, construction of heated bus shelters at a cost ranging from $23,000 to $44,000 each.
As the new heated shelters slowly come online I have to think to myself this city is in desperate need of a rapid rail system. While everyone can’t wait to jump on a soapbox to extol the virtues of green technology there is something terribly wrong with paying $2.25 for a trip across the city which can take an hour and a half on a cold and crappy bus. While the idea of heated bus shelters may sound like a good idea on the surface, it is really just an example of the backward thinking of some of our bureaucrats and politicians.
I haven’t been on a bus in almost 30 years and certainly have no plans to do so in the near future.

Heated bus shelters? But I thought the green global warming crowd were trying to tell us to conserve energy and CO2 emmissions?
