Glow in the Dark Cats
Scientists in South Korea have managed to clone cats that glow red when exposed to ultraviolet light. For what purpose?
… research aimed at developing treatments for human genetic diseases, say officials.
The process is quite fascinating actually.
According to the Korea Times, the scientists added red fluorescence protein (RFP) genes to the skin cells of the mother cat.
They then inserted the skin cells into ova to produce cloned cats genetically modified to contain the RFP gene.
Scientists say this breakthrough could also aid in the development of stem cell treatments among other things.
