Choice for Childcare
I’m a little late jumping on the bandwagon but it hasn’t been a very good week. Sara over at Choice for Childcare is blogging about a topic near and dear to her and that is…well…choice for childcare.
Now I may be somewhat out of my league here since I don’t have any children but I really don’t see how state-run institutionalized daycare as proposed by the Liberals and NDP is the answer. Everyone keeps talking about this Liberal national daycare plan. For starters, the Grits have no national daycare plan, they never did. All they did was forever talk about it. The closest they came was to deal with each of the provinces individually by promising them money. That said, suddenly the Liberals are painting themselves as the guardians of daycare.
The CPC plan is simple. It’s a plan of choice, something seriously lacking in this country these days. The Conservatives don’t claim to have all of the answers. They acknowledge their strategy is not perfect. But it is a much more realistic approach to the problem facing many parents. If some families choose to raise their children on their own why shouldn’t they be able to do so? Where did we ever get this state-run everything mentality from anyway?
I believe in choice. I believe in choosing my own way, my own destiny. I believe in personal responsibility. The CPC proposal addresses that. It gives parents the option of choosing how to spend their own money. I’ve said in the past many times that I am the best judge as to how to spend my money - I don’t need some bureaucrat making that decision on my behalf.
Now if you’ll excuse me I have to get back to my beer and popcorn.
