In blogging we all like to have fun and that includes photo fun. God knows I’ve participated in my fair share of “photoshoppery” satire but there is a line that one does not cross. It doesn’t have to be explained, it doesn’t require pictures to be drawn. Anyone with any degree of common sense knows where that line is. And Mike Klanders crossed it. Big time. Personally I find nothing humorous in comparing Ms. Chow to a dog nor do I see any parody or satire in it. In fact it’s downright rude and offensive. His excuse that it was simply a play on words is insulting. It is one thing to poke fun at political rivals using satire but it’s quite another to be outright vulgar.

I’ve used photo satire on many occasions comparing Paul Martin and the Liberals to the Goa’uld from TV’s Stargate SG-1. Anyone who has ever watched the show can see the parallels I attempted to draw in the spirit of parody. But the attack on Chow was just that - an attack. It was vicious and mean. But that wasn’t good enough. Klanders went so for as to call Chow’s husband, NDP Leader Jack Layton, an asshole. As much as I dislike the NDP’s ideology I would never refer to Layton as an asshole. In fact I have complimented him on several occasions on this very blog.

While Klanders has since resigned from his position as executive vice-president of the Liberal Party of Canada in Ontario I can’t help but wonder about the mindset of the Liberals. First we have the official PM’s spokesman Scott Reid telling Alberta to “blow me” then we have Reid again insulting Canadians by suggesting parents would spend any child care money they receive on beer and popcorn instead of their children and now we have a senior party organizer calling opponents assholes and comparing women to dogs. Disgusting. This Liberal culture of entitlement has gone on long enough. It’s time to put these guys out to pasture.
