NDP Announcement Insulting
Manitoba’s NDP government must be taking lessons from Paul Martin’s Liberals. Repeating a pledge made earlier in the year the NDP promised a reduction in provincial income taxes in the amount of half a percentage point for the middle-income bracket effective 01 January 2006. According to data from the Winnipeg Sun this means a family of four with a single income of $40,000 would realize savings in the amount of $4.91 month. Wow. The same family with a single income of $60,000 would save $13.16 month. Double wow. You can’t even buy a pizza for that. What will I do with my new found wealth? This is a slap in the face to an already over-taxed population. Even Saskatchewan is ahead of Manitoba in the tax reduction department. When the new scheme takes effect in the new year Manitoba will still have the highest income tax rates west of the Maritimes.
There’s also something else the New Democrats won’t tell you and that’s the issue of bracket creep. Because the province refuses to index tax brackets the miniscule savings will be quickly eaten up and then some.
Manitoba, under former Tory Premier Gary Filmon, flourished with a robust economy thanks in large part to the economic policies of the Progressive Conservatives. My how the mighty have fallen. The damage inflicted to the economic health of this province under the NDP’s watch is nothing less than alarming. God knows why Manitoba voters handed the NDP a mandate in the first place but we sure are reaping the fruits of that labour. If there is anybody in Canada that can attest to the benefit of living under a Conservative government it is the people of Manitoba. We are living proof of before and after.

The Truth Hurts
I don’t think it is appropriate for you to be criticizing $4.91 per month. By my calculations that is two beer and a bag of popcorn, lol.

Take the $4.91 and get a Thank You card and a postage stamp…
Write, “Dear Premier Gary Doer, thank you so much for the very modest down payment on a real tax decrease”.

That’s not a bad idea. I can still use the childcare cash for beer and popcorn.
