More Than Bum Tires Around Here

While watching the news this evening I noted a few points of interest. First of all I thought Harper’s hockey dad photo-op was tastefully done. This is the type of thing the CPC needs to do more of to counter the media’s portrayal of him as nothing more than a cardboard image. Of course we all know this is nonsense as anyone who has ever met Stephen will tell you. He really is a down to earth hockey dad kind of guy.
At the same time I couldn’t help but chuckle as Prime Minister Martin’s photo-op didn’t exactly come off as planned. After singing a few Christmas carols PMPM & Co. decided to go for a fun-packed sleigh ride but the trip was rather short lived due to a defective tire. I can’t think of a more appropriate metaphor.
Meanwhile out in Montreal Duceppe unloaded on Martin. If you’ll recall Martin said that he would face the Bloc leader on any street corner in any town in Quebec regarding the matter of sovereignty. Duceppe, in an emotional speech, called the PM on it daring him to come out to Montreal.
Even Handsome Jack got into the act by calling Martin a “broken record.”
Enjoy the holidays PMPM. You’re going to need them.

I’ve got to see a copy of the hockey-dad picture you referred to. It hasn’t crossed my path yet.

I wasn’t actually referring to a specific photograph. Harper took the day off and went to the arena to see his son play hockey but photographers were invited to tag-along. I’ve been scouring the web looking for some of the photos that must have been snapped but I’ve so far struck out.

There is sort of the sense that the wheels are coming off the fabled Liberal “red wagon”, isn’t there? Whether we look at the “kiss my ass” incident, the “bite me” imbroglio or the “beer and popcorn” gaffe, Liberals seem to be forming a circular firing squad. Martin himself is looking increasingly defensive about, well, everything. Still another month to go, though.

It is interesting that the Liberals are in this desperate attack mode while the CPC just keeps rolling along talking about issues. But yes it is still early.
