Glaring Contradiction
More from the debate.
I’m glad that I’m not the only one to pick up on a remark by Paul Martin. On tax cuts:
“We believe that putting dollars into your hands and letting you decide how to spend it is the way to go.”
Does anyone else see the glaring contradiction? Blogging Tories member Babbling Brooks does.

You misquoted Martin. What he actually said was:
“We believe that putting your dollars into our own pockets and letting senior Liberal Party hacks decide how to spend it is the way to go.”

You weren’t the only one to pick up on that exchange. I went so far as to pull a Gurmant Grewal and record the debate, and that was either a lie or a senior’s moment that afflicted Mr. Martin. It was in total contradiction to his comments with regard to the Conservative plan for early childcare assistance.

Interesting that Mr. Duceppe and Mr. Harper both referred to the book written by the former U.S. Ambassador to Canada - Paul Cellucci. In the book, Paul Martin’s statements about going to Iraq are recorded - contradicting what he said tonight, and also a record of Stephen Harper’s full reaction as events unfolded in Iraq - which is apparently consistent with what Mr. Harper has been saying all along. I’ll have to get the book…
As far as Paul Martin’s “senior moment” which he seems to have frequently, he totally blew his answer to the question from the woman who was on disability for 20 years…Did you notice then when the next question came along, he just ignored the new question and tried to answer the previous question from the woman on disability. Sad…always one answer behind? Maybe I’ve been unkind. When watching the Question Period in the House, I find it quite frustrating when Martin et al seem to refuse to answer questions. Maybe he/they just don’t understand the questions?

If anyone is interested, the book referred to tonight is UNQUIET DIPLOMACY - Paul Cellucci (former US Ambassador to Canada)

Oh yeah I noticed that. He was doing it all night. I could have put up a page and a half of such instances but I only posted a few of my favourites.

BTW, thanks for mentioning the book Harper alluded to. I’ll look for it.
