It’s amazing how those on the left are quick to point out that they are the true defenders of free speech yet these are the same folk who are just as quick to try and silence those with a different opinion. No I’m not referring to the trolls who stop by here with their self-righteous “you don’t know what you’re talking about but I do because I’m a lefty” crap. It’s also amazing how many trolls actually do stop by here to begin with. Yet I can’t be bothered to return the favour as I have better things to do. But I’m getting off topic. The point of this post is to bring attention to a disturbing situation over at Grey Eagle.

A little background info is in order. The author of the website is a 35-yr-old member of the 101st Airborne. She is married and is also a mother. Previously the site was devoted to her training for deployment to Iraq. Since her deployment she writes about life in the war-torn nation.

Anyway, she had a feature whereby she posted tributes to fellow soldiers. But thanks to some low class slime balls who hacked the site the script she used no longer functions as intended. When she tried to add the name of a soldier to the script the following was printed to the website,

“you have been hacked….Bush lied…”

Yeah that’s really intelligent. What’s worse is that Grey Eagle allowed all visitors to the site to have their say. Although she had the right to moderate comments she chose not to. It’s unfortunate that these idiots couldn’t show the same respect. From her site,

I have never took away anyone’Â’s freedom to post their views here. It was my belief that if I was to fight and defend freedom, then that would have to be for all, regardless of whether I believed in your views or not. I never deleted your comments or views, and rarely stepped in to oppose them or prevent your expression of them. I even went as far as to give you a forum on the website at my expense to present your views in open debate. But you hacked that, and prevented anyone from presenting their views. I guess that is your version of freedom of speech that you believe in so dearly in.

Thank goodness many fine folk have stepped up to the plate with offers of assistance.

UPDATE: I was more than amazed when I logged on this morning and saw the comments and my email. Thank you all so much. I cannot tell you how much it all meant to me, and I confess to having more than one tear in my eye after reading them all. I am so deeply moved by the response.Thank ALL of you for your support. I have shared many of your stories and comments with the soldiers here already. It made our day. When you read all the comments and all the email, I know as I sit here this moment I am proud to be an American and honored to serve each and very one of you.

As we speak a brand new design is being worked on. Hats off to those lending a hand. Hacking a website, especially because you don’t like the political views expressed, is the lowest of the low. Freedom of speech indeed. It exists so long as you are in synch with their agenda.
