Family Denounces al-Zarqawi

Finally. The family of murdering criminal Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has denounced him on the heels of the terror attacks in Jordan.

al-Zarqawi, whose real name is Ahmed Fadheel Nazzal al-Khalayleh, fancied himself somewhat of an untouchable because of his influential family. The al-Khalayleh tribe is a splinter of the prominent Bani Hassan Bedouin tribe which is very prominent in social and political circles. However, as a result of the repugnant attacks in Jordan, his family has disowned him. They have taken out ads in Jordanian newspapers swearing allegiance to King Abdullah II while condemning al-Zarqawi. In a statement signed by 57 members of his family including his brother they said,

“A Jordanian doesn’t stab himself with his own spear.”"We sever links with him until doomsday.”

“As we pledge to maintain homage to your throne and to our precious Jordan … we denounce in the clearest terms all the terrorist actions claimed by the so-called Ahmed Fadheel Nazzal al-Khalayleh, who calls himself Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.”

“We announce, and all the people are our witnesses, that we - the sons of the al-Khalayleh tribe - are innocent of him and all that emanates from him, whether action, assertion or decision.”

Kudos to the family. It’s long overdue. Now, if only if the families of other terrorists followed suit.

PS - Yes I’m aware of the rumours of his demise but they are just that - rumours. I’ll reserve comment when for when it is confirmed.

Update: I suspected the celebrations were premature.

U.S. forces sealed off a house in the northern city of Mosul where eight suspected al-Qaida members died in a gunfight — some by their own hands to possibly avoid capture. The White House said Sunday that it was “highly unlikely” that the terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was among the dead.
