A Would-Be Killer Speaks

Jordanian authorities have captured a would-be homicide bomber after her explosive device failed to detonate. The 35-yr-old woman, sister of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi’s right hand man Mubarak Atrous al-Rishawi, said she traveled to the Radisson SAS hotel with her husband with the intent to detonate the bomb belts they wore. Her husband, Ali Hussein Ali al-Shamari, successfully detonated his device.
“My husband detonated (his bomb) and I tried to explode my belt but it wouldn’t,” she said. “People fled running and I left running with them.”
Sajida Mubarak Atrous al-Rishawi went on to explain how she and her husband traveled under forged passports. The two of them got a pre-arranged ride from Iraq to Jordan with an unidentified driver and passenger in a “white car”. Once in Amman, Jordan, they all rented an apartment. It was at the apartment that her husband instructed her in the use of the bomb belt.
“He said it was for the attack on hotels in Jordan. We rented a car and entered the hotel on Nov. 9. My husband and I went inside and he went to one corner and I went to another,” she said. “There was a wedding at the hotel with children, women and men inside.”
In claiming responsibility for the attacks Al-Qaeda said they were designed to deliver a blow to Jordan’s support of the west in general and the U.S in particular.
Therein lies the problem with their twisted logic. Even if this group of criminals had a legitimate beef with the government of Jordan it doesn’t justify the intentional murder of civilians to make its point. Their use of innocent people only serves to illustrate how despicable they truly are. For all they know the people at that wedding may have even opposed their government’s support of the U.S., as do many Jordanians. Doesn’t matter to the murderers of Al-Qaeda. All that matters to them is their objective of obtaining certain political goals under the guise of being self-styled holy men and damn anyone who gets in their way.
