Blogger Comments

Now that Blogger has vastly improved its native comment system I’ve been giving serious consideration to switching back to it from Haloscan. The reason the move to Haloscan was made in the first place a year ago was because Blogger’s default system at the time was pretty lousy. But that has since changed. About the only thing Haloscan offers that Blogger does not is the ability to ban IPs which is quite futile anyway. Anyone who knows anything about computers will tell you that IP banning is extremely easy to get around. As well, I really don’t like Haloscan’s practice of archiving old comments. Once comments reach a few months old they are moved to a different server which means you can no longer access them. Haloscan claims they are not actually deleted just moved but the end result is the same - you can’t get at them. Blogger has no restrictions on comments. If I do decide to deepsix Haloscan, I’ll try to see if I can move the comments from there to here. With respect to trackback I rarely used it anyway so I shouldn’t miss it too much.
