Sharon Dodges Bullet

In a surprising development Ariel Sharon staved off an attempt by his opponents in the Likud, led by Binyamin Netanyahu, to force primary elections in November.
In a surprise move, Sharon took the election by 104 votes, with a majority of 1,433 to 1,329. As a result, the Likud primaries will not be held in 60 days as was sought by challengers Binyamin Netanyahu and Dr. Uzi Landau. The primaries will be held in April 2006 as scheduled and not moved ahead as was sought by the challengers who wish to unseat Sharon as party leader.
Personally I don’t believe this is a good thing. I used to have much respect for Sharon but that was before freeing thousands of murderers and wanabees, giving away a military base to the Egyptians and uprooting citizens from Gaza. Israel is headed down a dangerous road if this guy stays in power.
