Show Us the Money

We all know how big of a dud the federal gun registry has become. It has done nothing to deter crime nor will it for obvious reasons. Then there is the matter of the outrageous cost over-runs. Ever wonder exactly how much this white elephant is costing us? From today’s email…
To: The Honorable Paul Martin and the Government of CanadaIn the year 2004, Paul Martin pledged to allow for open, honest and “transparent” governing to become the standard practice in Canada. It was his pledge that the government would no longer deny the citizens of Canada information regarding government proceedings.
We the citizens of Canada now call upon Prime Minister Paul Martin to acknowledge his promise and provide full disclosure on all aspects of the cost overruns of the Federal Gun Registry. This is to include giving the Auditor General Sheila Fraser full, unfettered access to all accounting aspects of the Federal Gun Registry for immediate examination and shall include the examination of any departments or businesses that received money as a result of the Gun Registry’s implementation and operation.
Whereas the monetary aspects of the Federal Gun Registry are not a matter of national security, there is no reason why this information should remain unavailable to public examination. Only when a proper, unbiased and open examination of the Federal Gun Registry program by the Auditor General is conducted can the public have an accurate understanding as to the reasons why the cost projection for this project expanded to an estimated $1 Billion from the $2 Million outlined as the full setup cost by former justice minister, the Honorable Allan Rock.
As the unconcluded costs total five hundred times the initial quoted total cost of the project, it is of vital importance that a professional examination be performed in order to rectify the unusually high overruns that have been observed in this program and to ensure no unnecessary waste of tax dollars is occurring/continuing.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
