Taking the Fight to the Spammers
In my other blog, Reverberations, I mentioned an anti-spam effort being mounted by an Israeli company called Blue Security. I thought I would cross-post it here as it may interest you.
An update to my previous post Spamming spammers. I checked out the link in the article and promptly signed up. The name of the anti-spam organization is Blue Security. How does it work?
Blue Security was founded in 2004 to provide a viable solution to the prevalence and sophistication of spam and spyware. At Blue Security, we believe that consumers and enterprises should not be the ones paying the price for cyber criminals’ actions: time and productivity loss, abusive content reaching our Inbox, exposure to security hazards and our loss of privacy. We believe Internet users have the right to choose the content they receive and the secure environment they deserve and that cyber criminals who choose to ignore these choices are the ones that should pay the price.
Using a breakthrough approach, the Do Not Intrude Registryâ„¢, our solution uses an ethical and effective approach to eliminate unsolicited bulk e-mail by disrupting the economics of spam. Blue Security created the Do Not Intrude Registry to give you control over the spam messages you receive. It is an easy and efficient way to put an end to unsolicited e-mail. The Do Not Intrude Registry lets you reclaim your e-mail experience.
The Blue Security approach differs from current technology-based solutions that are reactive . Ours is a bold, innovative, proactive approach to eliminating spam by creating deterrents that encourage spammers to comply with the Do Not Intrude Registry and discontinue sending spam to the Registry users who make up the Blue Community.
What you do is join their community, which is currently free and in beta. You provide them with the email addys you want protected up to a maximum of 3. Then, you download a simple little app which sits in your system tray and monitors incoming email. You also have the option of manually reporting spam to Blue Security by forwarding the offending letters to a special address they set up for you. They keep track of the reports sent in by community members and go after the spammers! Cool!
Check it out - it’s free. So far.
