Exclusivity

As I was perusing the CBC’s website this morning I noticed a section called Free Headlines in their top navbar. I decided to check it out, not because I wanted to place their headlines on my site, but rather merely out of curiosity. When I read the terms of service lo and behold I found this gem.
2. Exclusivity. The Affiliate guarantees that CBC Free Headlines shall be the exclusive content on its Website from a general news and information provider.
Good grief. Is the CBC that afraid of competition? That of course is a rhetorical question as we already know the answer. This white elephant is funded to the tune of $1 billion every year courtesy the federal Liberals yet they are unable to gain a substantial audience. When FOX News decided it wanted to enter this country’s market the CBC fought them tooth and nail. This is a classic example of the over-weight, complacent, sloppy and sub-standard crown corporation. Before all of you leftwing goony birds jump on me I know the CBC is not a crown corp but they may as well be.
When MTS (Manitoba Telephone System) was privatized by the Gary Filmon Conservatives a few years ago the left almost had a stroke. All they preached was doom and gloom. The end of MTS as we knew it was near. Guess what? Privatization was the best thing to ever happen to MTS. They are now a thriving corporation on the leading edge of research and technological innovation. As usual the fear mongering of the left was just that - fear mongering and utter nonsense.
It’s time the same happened to the CBC. Handing them a billion bucks a year is outrageous. Talk about corporate welfare! Especially in light of the hurdles that are placed in front of anyone who wishes to compete with them. And what has it got them? Certainly not viewers as they continue to languish in obscurity. It’s time to cut the apron strings. It’s time to leave the nest. Force the CBC to become competitive and they will. When they no longer have a gravy train to fall back on they will reconsider force feeding us their current lineup of insipid programs. That which doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. The CBC will either learn to live on its own and flourish or die trying. Anything is better than what we have now.
