CBS News Strikes Again
Does CBS News have a death wish? Are they self-destructing? Still smarting from the phony document fiasco the network has once again put its foot in its mouth.
Remember last year when talking head Dan Rather reported that the Bush administration was making use of Video News Releases?
“There are charges now the Bush administration is selling the program to the public in a very misleading way.”
The charge was that the administration was using VNRs in which actors played journalists in a simulated news report (as if we can’t tell the difference) trying to sell the President’s Medicare reform plan.
Well lo and behold guess who made use of VNRs long before President Bush? According to PR Watch…
“For years CBS (and all the other networks) have run fake news stories in the form of video news releases.”
They then added,
“CBS sells fake news.”
The group PR Watch produced a copy of an ad placed in the publication PR Week by CBS in which the network offered to produce VNRs for interested parties.
So let me get this straight. CBS not only use but also produce and sell the very product/service that they accused the President of having used. Wonderful.
