Reckless Gunfire Didn’t Come From IDF

Posted on | January 31, 2005 |

Good grief. The following fair and balanced news report is brought to you by AFP. (Agence France Presse)

A 10-year-old Palestinian girl was shot dead by Israeli troops at a United Nations-run school in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, Palestinian medical and UN sources said.

Yup, that’s the IDF alright. Indiscriminately shooting into schoolyards. AFP proudly trumpets this as if it is the gospel. However, an IDF investigation has revealed the fatal fire may have actually come from joyous Palestinians shooting in the air while returning from their Mecca pilgrimage.

A military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a preliminary investigation had found a “high likelihood” that the girl was hit by Palestinian gunfire. Israel Radio quoted Israeli sources as saying that Palestinian revelers returning from Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca had been shooting into the air in the area. Residents denied the fact.

Arabs firing live weapons in the air? Nah.
