Great Series From the Winnipeg Sun

Tom Brodbeck of the Winnipeg Sun is currently in the midst of a four-part series on the obstacles faced by the private sector wanting to do business in Manitoba. Among the problems cited by a panel of business leaders are high taxes, excessive government regulation and lopsided labour laws.
A blue-ribbon panel of 10 business leaders — including Hartley Richardson, president and CEO of James Richardson & Sons Ltd., Art Defehr, president of Palliser Furniture, and Gerry Price, president and CEO of E. H. Price — will tell you what Manitoba needs to do to break through the economic paralysis it finds itself in and reach something closer to its full potential.
What the series isn’t is a glorification and exaggeration of the small economic gains Manitoba has made in recent years, or the self-delusional pap that this province is actually “booming.” I’ll leave that to others.
Part 1 of the series can be seen here. Part 2 of the series can be seen here.
