Abbas & Hamas

Temporary PA Leader Mahmoud Abbas officially kicked off his presidential campaign by calling on Israel to end its occupation. Speaking from Ramallah, Abbas also made it clear Israel should free all political prisoners.
He said Israel’s planned withdrawal from Gaza should be part of a wider pull-out from all the territory it had occupied since the 1967 Mid-East war - including Arab east Jerusalem.”Israel must pull out of all Palestinian lands occupied in 1967. We must end the occupation,” he told a cheering crowd of hundreds of supporters in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
“…he warned that peace with Israel would only be possible with the release of all Palestinian prisoners, especially jailed intifada (uprising) leader Marwan Barghouti.”
Sorry Mahmoud but it ain’t gonna happen. First of all the lands you refer to do not belong to the Palestinians exclusive of all others, secondly, the disputed territories are lands that were captured by Israel during battle in wars they did not start therefore are under no obligation to hand them over to anyone least of all to you and thirdly, the so-called political prisoners are terrorists and prison is where they belong.
Meanwhile Hamas made some significant gains in municipal elections Thursday.
OBADEIAH, WEST BANK – Huddling near a gas heater in the mayor’s office of this small town near Bethlehem, Fatah campaign manager Atef Rabaya is still reeling.”I’m trying to wake up from this shock,” he says. “The Imams in the mosques must have persuaded people to sympathize with the Islamists.”
The shock that Mr. Rabaya was dealt was the stunning victory by Hamas, the Islamic Resistance Movement, in his town of Obadeiah, in Thursday’s municipal elections.
