UN to ‘Investigate’ Fighting in Africa

Posted on | December 14, 2004 |

Yet more violence in Africa.

Some 15,000 people in the small town of Kanyabayonga in eastern DR Congo have fled fierce fighting between rival forces of the Congolese army there.Kinshasa has insisted it is fighting Rwandan troops in Kanyabayonga - something Rwanda denies.

On Monday, the UN appealed to all sides to stop fighting. It has said a peacekeeping mission is en route to investigate the fighting.

Investigate the fighting? That’ll scare the bejesus out of them for sure. Don’t look for the UN to do much here - they wouldn’t want to upset their two-bit dictator pals too much.
