Minnesota Tests New Design

Technology Review reports,

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota next week will begin issuing a first-of-its-kind driver’s license designed to thwart counterfeiters — an issue that has taken on greater urgency since the Sept. 11 attacks. The licenses have a security feature in which a reflective image appears to float above and below the card when the license is tilted. The licenses will have a distinctively Minnesota flavor: The floating images will be of loons, an enduring symbol of the state.

“It will be nearly impossible to counterfeit,” Gov. Tim Pawlenty said.

Anything that can hinder the plans of terrorists is a good thing.
