Disappearing Weapons Related to Kyoto?

Posted on October 28, 2004 under Current Events

Surprise, surprise! Weapons moved out of Iraq possibly into Syria. This is something many people, including yours truly, have been saying for ages now, with respect to wmds anyway. If the Iraqis were able to move all sorts of conventional arms and explosives out from under the UN noses into another country, how do we know that the elusive wmds were not also moved?

The only thing that surprised us, and maybe it shouldn’t have, was Russia’s involvement. Although Iraq was a longtime ally of Russia it never occurred to us that Russian troops may have played a critical role in all of this. The reason for Russia’s objection to the war is becoming more and more clear all the time. Not only have their troops been implicated in the disappearing weapons operation, they are also now suspected of having destroyed any contractual evidence that may have existed between them and the Iraqis.

While it certainly appears that the Russians tried desperately to cover their collective asses, we wonder if there is also another underlying motive here. While it is true many European nations joined the coalition of the willing, many prominent EU members did not. It is also true that the EU promised to support Russia’s entry bid into the WTO. Could part of the motive for opposing this war be somehow related to voting in favour of Kyoto. (ie; kiss the EUs ass)
