Everyone’s Talking About Blogs

A great piece on blogs by Glenn Harlan Reynolds of Tech Central Station. It’s the first of a two part series.

We’ve come a long way, baby. Blogs have gone from barely-understood phenomenon to near-commonplace in this election cycle, and it looks as if they may be having some impact on the results. They’ve even gone commercial, with services such as blogads making it possible for successful bloggers to earn a living that compares with what many journalists earn — and making it possible for far more bloggers to justify their activity to themselves, or their spouses, as a hobby that at least makes money instead of costing money. In the process, of course, things have been lost as well as gained. No doubt after the election there will be many retrospective pieces written, talking with the benefit of hindsight about the influence that blogs had. But at the moment, when confused and contradictory polls mean that I can write behind an almost Rawlsian veil of ignorance, I want to take advantage of that status to look both forward and back.

And speaking of blogs, I had this item all set to go a couple of days ago but somehow neglected to post it! Sheesh. Alan of The Command Post delivered a speech to a group of managing editors of major newspapers that subscribe to AP. The topic? BLOGS!
