The French Connection

I knew it was only a matter of time before the truth came out regarding France’s complicity in the Iraq affair. Newly uncovered documents reveal that Saddam Hussein was told as early as May 2002 that France, having been granted lucrative oil contracts, would veto any US plan for military action. The Iraqi intelligence documents show that Saddam bestowed very lavish gifts upon various politicians, journalists and diplomats and focused his efforts on Russia, China and France. Former Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz told the Iraq Survey Group that French oil firm Total had been promised lucrative deals including exploration rights in exchange for the French governments veto.
The ISG also concluded that although it couldn’t find evidence of wmds, it did uncover evidence showing Saddam planned to resume his weapons programs the minute UN sanctions were lifted. However, this contradicts an earlier report they filed in which they did claim to find evidence of wmds.
Oh what a tangled web we weave.
