Kids and Chips

Getting away from politics for a moment, here’s an interesting item about school kids and computer chips. Electronic giant Fujitsu has partnered with an elementary school in Tokyo to launch a trial program in which students carry tiny computer chips.

The chips are tracked by radio and send signals to receivers located at the school’s gates. A computer, which keeps track of the times students arrive and leave school, can even text this information to parents’ cellphones.

Currently 72 children are participating in the pilot program. Read more at Technology Review.
